Accessibility
At Caribbean World Shop, we believe everyone should be able to use any website on the internet, regardless of any disability they may have. However, while we care about web accessibility, we also understand that designing a website that’s both accessible and visually attractive can be challenging.
The good news is that accessible websites don’t have to be ugly. On the contrary, some stunning websites out there are designed with accessibility in mind — which we could all learn a thing or two from.
Every website owner wants to attract as many visitors as possible. However, few take the steps necessary to ensure their site can be used by everyone. There are millions of users out there who rely on sites being accessible, and if you don’t take the time to understand their needs, everyone will be missing out.
To help us understand the problem as quickly as we can, please tell us:
• The web address or title of the page where you found a problem
• What the problem is
• What computer and software do you use
All constructive feedback about the accessibility or usability of our site is welcome and we promise to consider it carefully.
What’s next for accessibility at Caribbean World Shop
We will continue to make improvements to our website to make it easier for all our customers to use. Our next area of focus is:
• Change colors, contrast levels, and fonts
• Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
• Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the websites using speech recognition software
• listen to most of the websites using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver)
• We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand
We aim to make these as accessible as the rest of the website. We are also improving our PDFs and revisiting our video content so the user experience is the same for everyone.
We’ve assessed the cost of fixing the issues with navigation and accessing information, and with interactive tools and transactions. We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment when the web developer contract is up for renewal, likely to be in summer 2023.
